The Click has been a 'passion project' of mine for the last 2 years. A camera that I've always wanted to build, entirely from the ground up, with an excellent quality lens and a simple 'click' shutter that is magnetically controlled and exposes a frame with a simple flick. Like the earliest Box cameras, the shutter exposes an image in both directions, allowing for creative multiple exposures and zero reliance on any battery, electronics or exposure meters.
The Click has a standard 24x36mm curved 'full frame' image size, delivering 24/36 images from a roll of film. The camera also comes with a drop-in half frame insert, doubling the amount of images from a single roll of film and switching the view into a portrait orientation. There are matching markers inside the optic viewfinder to help compose half frame images.
To maintain consistent frame spacing, the camera uses a very simple rotating indicator wheel on the back, just above the door. This wheel automatically rotates when the film is wound on, showing two different indicators; "HALF" and "FULL". Depending on the image format you are using, the film should be wound accordingly;
24x36 frames - No insert fitted - wind 1 complete rotation - FULL > FULL
18x24 half frames - Insert fitted - wind 1/2 rotation - FULL > HALF (next frame would then be HALF > FULL and so on)
This is a very limited edition, with only 50 cameras available, which have been manufactured entirely in-house. The camera comes in a black magnetic gift box with a removable half frame insert and wrist strap, making it an excellent gift.
The examples shown here have all been taken by either myself, Stephen Dowling (Kosmo Foto), Graeme Jago (Sunny16) or Laurens Willis using pre-production beta cameras. Thank you to everyone who has given me their time (and film) to help me develop the Click.
