The Six:9 is a compact, lightweight, medium format camera with dedicated, interchangeable, magnetic lens cones to allow for a range of focal lengths to be used by the photographer.
All Six:9 cameras come with one lens cone/helicoid (where required) as standard. The following lens cone options are currently available, with more being added regularly. If there is a specific lens you wish to use, and it's not listed, get in touch and a custom cone can be designed, so long as the rear element is smaller than 60mm diameter, and the shutter size is smaller than 54mm;
All lens cones are secured using 8 very strong neodymium magnets, and can be removed by pushing the left side of the cone from the inside of the body to release the magnets.
Film loading/unloading is simple, thanks to the fully removable rear body, secured using a threaded tripod mount on the base.
Both the take up and rewind knobs are machined aluminium, with an internal ratchet in the take-up spool, preventing the film from rewinding or losing tension between frames.
The rear of the camera body has three red windows, with an internally-integrated rotating cover, used to quickly and easily wind on to the next frame. The full manual winding means that double/multiple exposures are possible.
Standard frame format is 6x9, but all cameras come with drop in baffles, which can be fitted before loading the film, to reduce the frame size to 6x6 or 645. The frame numbers used for each format are;
6x9 - Lower Right Window, no baffles - 1,3,5,7,9,11,13,15 (8 frames total)
6x6 - Middle Window - 6x6 baffles installed - 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12 (12 frames total)
645 - Lower Middle Window - 645 baffles installed - 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12,13,14,15 (15 frames total)
The basic Six:9 camera weighs only 280g, without lens/cone, making it a very compact system that you can comfortably carry in a small bag, or attached via a camera strap. There are two stainless steel rollers integrated into the film path, ensuring both a smooth wind on, and removing the risk of scratching your film.
As well as a standard 1/4" tripod thread built in to the body of the camera, there are also a pair of cold shoes integrated into the matte black top plate, and a centrally mounted bubble level for aiding composition. Accessory viewfinders/rangefinders can be used in the cold shoes to help with framing/focus (not included), and the Mamiya Press lens cone also comes with an accessory cold shoe plate, allowing for the standard Mamiya Viewfinders to be fitted in a central position, directly above the lens.
